The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in April with 8,575 sold cars (2012: 8,729), followed by the Volvo V40 for which deliveries reached 5,432 cars (new model). Including the Cross Country version, the V40 reached 7,345 sold cars. The third best-selling model was the Volvo S60 with 5,074 cars (4,803).
Volvo Car Group reports global retail sales of 33,702 cars for the month of April. For the first four months of 2013 retail sales were down 6.4 per cent. China was Volvo’s biggest market in April and both China and Sweden reported growth compared to last year.
European markets continue to struggle with weak consumer demand following the weak economic situation. The decline in Europe is however showing some signs of a slowdown and all four Nordic markets grew in April.
The Japanese market was a bright spot in April with a reported growth of 52.2 per cent thanks to a successful launch of the Volvo V40 model.
Retail sales in the United States in April amounted to 4,475 cars. The S60 and XC60 models continue to lead individual carline sales in the United States.
In Sweden, Volvo continues to outperform the market and Volvo’s share of the market subsequently grew to almost 20 per cent. China was Volvo Car Group’s biggest market in April with 4,710 sold cars, partly thanks to the XC60 model selling at record levels said Volvo Cars Media Center.
