Should You Buy A New Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe?

OK, so I might be slightly biased with this blog post because I have a soft spot for the iconic little Mazda MX-5, but who doesn’t? There aren’t many sports cars out there that you can buy which offer so much fun! The MX-5 is now in its third generation and has been in production since 1989.

In the United States, this car is known as the Mazda Miata, and in its home country of Japan it has been simply named the Mazda Roadster. As for me, well, I call it the pocket rocket!

If you like the looks of the Mazda MX-5 roadster coupe, but you are undecided as to whether you should go out and buy a brand new one or not, here are some reasons why you should head down to Canterbury Mazda (or whoever happens to be your local Mazda main dealer) and buy one today!

British design, Japanese build quality

Die-hard MX-5 fans will know that the previous generations were designed by Yasushi Nakamuta, but the Japanese car manufacturer wanted to reinvent the MX-5 and give people more reasons to buy this car.

They decided to use Moray Callum as their lead designer. The Scotsman had worked for a number of other car manufacturers, most notably Ford (to whom he returned to after designing the third generation).

Here’s a bit of trivia for you: Moray Callum is also the younger brother of Ian Callum, the design director at Jaguar Cars. Anyway, it’s a well-known fact that many iconic cars were designed by Brits, and with the reliable Japanese build quality that Mazda offers in their cars, the mix has resulted in a successful refresh for this sports car!

The Mazda MX-5 is the best-selling two-seater roadster of all time

Without a doubt, this car is regarded as the best-selling roadster of all time! Nearly a million models around the world have been sold since its inception 25 years ago, and the firm is expected to eclipse that figure well into 2015.

And to prove that it is the best-selling two-seater sports car ever, check out the Guinness World Records website for more details!

They are fun to drive

Many sports cars are built purely for performance, luxury or style, but what’s great about the Mazda MX-5 roadster coupe is that it’s a car built for fun! Whilst it’s true that the car offers the right blend of those three sports car qualities that I just mentioned, the main focus of the car is to create an awesome driving experience for anyone that gets behind the wheel!

This much-loved sports car has a massive fan following all around the world, and there are scores of owners clubs where people can get together with their MX-5s for events and track days.

The handling on the Mazda MX-5 roadster coupe is one of the best in its class, and thanks to its light body shell and rear-wheel drive system, you can be guaranteed of an exhilarating driving experience!

The F-TYPE Coupe visual message is defined by three key ‘heart lines’, that visual message beginning with the formidable grille. It is from the twin ‘shark gill’ openings that sit either side of the grille that the essential first heart line – which mirrors the design of the F-TYPE Convertible – flows and begins to take shape. Running up through the headlamp, and accentuated by the LED ‘J blade’ signature running lamps, the line then arcs up over the front wheel arch before dropping elegantly as it runs through the door, washing out into the muscular rear haunch.

The second heart line begins at the rear edge of the door, swelling outwards and upwards to create a visually strong wheel arch, emphasizing the car’s rear-wheel drive layout, before dropping vertically through the tail lamp ...
