General Motors Co.’s operations in China took three prestigious awards at the Auto Shanghai 2013.
Shanghai GM was named Best Car Manufacturer at the show’s Grand Awards; the Detroit-based automaker and its joint ventures also won the Best Booth Design award; and its Ecotec 2.0L engine was named one of the 10 Best Engines at the show.
The awards were jointly sponsored by the Auto Shanghai 2013 Organizing Committee and several mainstream media organizations, according to GM. More than 8.46 million votes were cast during the nine-day show, which concluded on April 29.
Shanghai GM showcased 45 vehicles under its Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands, with the theme of “Innovation Driving the Future.” GM also debuted its new Buick Riviera concept at the show, which the fourth global concept vehicle jointly developed by GM’s Shanghai GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint ventures in Shanghai
The awards add to an impressive week for GM’s and its joint ventures in China. Shanghai GM and SAIC-GM-Wuling saw sales increase 15.3 percent on an annual basis last month to an April record 261,870 units.
Buick, Chevrolet, Wuling and Baojun brands, all reached all-time highs for April sales. Cadillac set an all-time monthly sales record – up 99.1 percent from last April to 4,077 units.
Its strong performance took GM’s sales for the first four months of 2013 to a record 1.08 units, an increase of 10.9 percent on an annual basis. It was the first time GM surpassed a million unit sales for the year in April.
