So, what can you expect from the Ducati 1299 Superleggera?
With the limited-edition 1299 Superleggera, Ducati have certainly raised the bar. Not only does it feature the most powerful twin-cylinder mill to date but the brand has done everything to ensure riders have as much control as possible. There is only one place to begin, though, and this is with the design. This bike was designed to minimize losses caused due to drag and weight. 7075 aluminium inserts are laminated into the structure at pivotal points, reinforcing and strengthening without adding appreciable bulk or weight.
The chassis; what to expect
What about the chassis? Well, it features a minimal skeletal structure, which relies a lot on the strength of the stress skin and engine to ensure everything functions probably. The structured is finished out with a single-side, carbon-fiber swingarm. The factory tapped Öhlins for all of the suspension components. In terms of braking duties, there are four key components here: 245 mm disc in back, and the twin-pot caliper, 330 mm discs up front, and the Brembo Monobloc M50 calipers.
The control systems and the engine bring the real magic to this bike
Despite the incredible appearance of the bike, there is no denying that the real magic happens in the engine and its control systems. A lot like the rest of the Ducati 1299 Superleggera, the factory took steps so that the engine would be lightened through the use of valves and fasteners made from titanium. With a 116 mm bore and only a 60.8 mm stroke, the engine is oversquare but it definitely does not lack when it comes to torque. In fact, this is the most powerful twin cylinder from Ducati to-date. Waste heat is managed through a radiator and water jacket. The combustion chambers mount two fuel injectors each, meaning you get four in total, which are all controlled by the Mitsubishi EFI.
