A surprise visit from the 2015 Mustang
While most of us are stuck ogling online pictures of the new Mustang or pretending to build our own on Ford’s website, the lucky folks over at CJ Pony Parts got the honor of taking a look at the 2015 fastback GT in person. Employees got to see firsthand the lower, wider and overall more aggressive-looking Mustang that had the magnetic paint scheme.
Though they didn’t get any actual time behind the wheel while the car was in motion, they were invited by the Ford Racing representative – who had brought the car – to sit inside of it and get a good luck at the interior. They report that the driver’s seat has the feel of fighter jet cockpit and that the Recaro seats provided a good level of comfort and positioning to reach all of the controls. They also got a good look at the new keyless ignition and toggle switches on the dash.
Unfortunately, (since that particular Mustang was a pre-production model) they weren’t able to take a look under the hood because the engine wasn’t ready for cameras. And even though they weren’t allowed to drive it, they still got some idea of the driving experience since the Ford Racing rep told them all about his experience driving the Mustang down from Michigan to Harrisburg, PA.
In his somewhat biased opinion, the new Ford Mustang has a very smooth ride thanks to the new IRS. And even though this was the GT – which of course comes with a 5.0 L V8 engine – the rep reported that he averaged about 26 miles per gallon on his long drive. Not bad, especially considering that this model is even heavier than last year’s. The car’s lowered body and increased aerodynamics might have something to do with that.
The highlight of the surprise visit was listening to the GT’s sound. Short of sitting in the driver’s seat and feeling the acceleration or taking a look under the hood, that has to be the best way to experience that 5.0 L V8 engine. This particular Mustang came equipped with an aftermarket Ford Racing cat-back exhaust system, which made the engine’s purrs that much sweeter.
Ford Racing has already begun the process of developing an entire line of similar high quality aftermarket parts that will be released as soon as the new Mustang is. Plus, other aftermarket parts manufacturers have also gotten early access to the 2015 Mustang, which means there will be plenty of parts ready to go for the car’s release. It’s been a long wait from December 5th, when the 2015 Mustang was first revealed to Mustang lovers, but it appears to have been worth it. You’ll be seeing some of these new models on the streets – and maybe in your garage – in no time.
