Jaguar’s C-X75 Outshines Aston Martin
The release of the 24th James Bond movie comes with many great technological advances. This modern James Bond film features impressive special effects but it’s the super-car that stands out in the latest film. The latest James Bond movie, ready to hit the cinemas worldwide this month, features a limited edition science project from Jaguar that just might put the beloved Aston Martin to shame.
The New Four-Wheeled Beauty
Spectre, will feature a gorgeous Jaguar C-X75. The car is a stunning two-door coupe and one of Jaguars’ hybrid-electric models. It first appeared at the 2010 Paris Motor Show as the concept car of Jaguar. The luxury sports car manages to pump out an impressive 778 horsepower, with the help of four electric motors. It is considered to be a concept that will influence the design and functions of many future cars. The prototype features two diesel-fed micro gas turbines, used for charging its batteries.
Jaguar announced its desire to manufacture a limited number of the C-X75 models in May 2011. About 250 cars were planned to be built in a business partnership with Williams F1, the famous Formula One team, although they did not reach that amount. Originally, the model was going to be sold with a boosted petrol engine of small dimensions but it instead features the micro gas turbines. The modification upped the already steep price. Depending on its specifications, a C-X75 model could range between $1.15 and $1.48 million. A cool million and half buys you a super car that goes from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and reaches speeds up to 205 mph. Despite this, the manufacturers announced that they would cancel the production process of this car due to the escalating economic crisis. The limited production of these cars may have added an allure that Spectra producers could not ignore.
Jaguar on Screen
Despite the hype, the beautiful Jaguar C-X75 is not the main car in this latest installment of the James Bond legacy. It is actually the car of the villain. The car is featured in chase taking place in Rome with James Bond driving an Aston Martin DB10. According to the film’s staff in charge of taking care of the movie’s vehicles, the C-X75 has a 542bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine. Many believed that the appearance of this car in the film may mean that the manufacturer would reconsider the production of these cars. Jaguar has confirmed though that they did not change any of its previously set decisions.
While Aston Martins are the signature vehicles in the James Bond series, Jaguar has made its mark on several occasions before as have other car makes. In the 2002 film Die Another Day, a Jaguar XKR was featured. Today, the XKR can be admired at the National Motor Museum, in Beaulieu, Hampshire, UK. In the 2006 film Casino Royale and its 2008 sequel Quantum of Solace, a Jaguar XJ8 is featured. Both of these cars used in the movies now belong to private owners. Skyfall, the James Bond movie released in 2012, features a Jaguar XJ (X351). Today, the car belongs to the British Intelligence Agency, the real BIA that is.
So, does the C-X75 really outshine the DB10 driven by Bond? Everyone is going to have their own opinion but one thing is for sure, Jaguar’s concept car is set to get a lot of attention from some wealthy car enthusiasts. For all the Jaguar fans that hopped to see the C-X75 on the roads one day, the latest James Bond movie is as close as you’re going to get.
