Peugeot 208 awarded 5 stars by Euro NCAP |
The aim of the 208 Project was to design a car which is both compact, comfortable, economical and safe.
These factors proved difficult to reconcile, but the goal was achieved: the 208 boasts all of these qualities.
Smaller outside, larger inside, the 208 is a practical everyday vehicle, particularly for moving around cities, which offers a higher level of comfort.
Another advantage of this new layout: the 208 is on average 110 kg lighter than the previous generation, lowering its CO2 emissions and improving its consumption. While this lighter weight allows running costs to be reduced, it also contributes to the safety of the 208; every kilogram saved means less energy to be absorbed.
This year, the independent body Euro NCAP has introduced a new scoring system, making it more difficult to obtain stars.
Under these stricter criteria, the 208 is the first car in its category to be awarded 5 stars, the highest rating.
The 208 ensures the safety of all customers: right from the entry level (Access), the 208 is equipped as standard with a high level of safety equipment: ABS, ESP, 6 airbags, Isofix mountings in the rear, speed limiter control, seatbelt reminder for the front seats, collapsible steering column, active footrest… Its structure also helps to protect its occupants: aluminium beam-absorber, very high strength steel and ultra high strength steel…
The result of the EuroNCAP test is the best possible proof of the 208##Q##s active and passive safety level.
Furthermore, organised around elements which play an important role in this domain, the redesigned layout of the driver##Q##s position makes driving easier.
By bringing the information within the line of sight, the head-up instrument panel reduces the time the driver has to take his or her eyes off the road to read the information.
Linked to the reduced weight, the small steering wheel is more agile and offers the driver unrivalled precision on the road.
