2014 Chevrolet Impala
The 2014 Impala debuts with a new, muscular design that calls on equal parts Malibu and Camaro to create a look that Chevrolet says “looks much more expensive than it is.”
Classic Impala design cues, such as the leaping Impala emblem on the C pillar and the raised Impala lettering on a rear chrome bar, blend with the more modern Chevrolet design language to create a large sedan that, while a bit visually busy from certain angles, is athletic and muscular.
Chevrolet has recrafted its Impala big sedan to be less like the junky rental car you might call to mind, and more like the premium high-end brand statement that Ford Motor executed with the latest Taurus.
Along the way, GM##Q##s Chevy brand styled its car to resemble an swoop-backed Audi. Let##Q##s just say it makes a good first impression.
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala introduced at the New York Auto Show aims to shed the model’s fleet favorite image with an all-new premium image when it goes on sale next year.
Built on the same platform as Cadillac’s upcoming XTS sedan, the full-size Impala has a bold exterior design that combines Chevy’s new corporate face with a distinctive profile that features a power dome hood, deeply sculpted rocker panels and flared rear fenders giving it an athletic look that##Q##s a far cry from an anonymous undercover cop car.
The front or all-wheel-drive sedan will come with a choice of three engines that includes a 2.4-liter hybrid good for 35 mpg on the highway, GM’s newest 2.5-liter four-cylinder and the latest version of the 303 hp V6 found in the current Impala.
The new Impala will be available with the driver##Q##s choice of three engines, all of which featuring direct injection technology. The most powerful option is a 303-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine. A new 2.5-liter Ecotec four-cylinder is the middle-of-the-road option, outputting 195 horsepower while delivering an estimated 30 mpg on the highway. At the most fuel efficient end of the scale is a 182-horsepower 2.4-liter Ecotec engine with the e-Assist mild hybrid system, which nets an estimated 35 highway mpg.
Pricing for the 2014 Impala has not been announced, but it will be built at GM’s Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant and alongside the Chevrolet Volt and Malibu at the automaker’s Detroit-Hamtramck, Michigan, facility when it goes on sale next year.
