Biodiesel, good or not ?
B30 biodiesel, which is now available from many supermarket fuel stations, is not approved by Volkswagen Group UK for use in Audi vehicles. As an Audi owner, you should be aware that using this fuel may invalidate your engine and fuel system warranties.
The fuel is a blend of 70 per cent fossil diesel and 30 per cent biodiesel, which is derived from fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). Normal diesel contains up to five per cent biodiesel (to the BS EN590 standard); this is approved by Volkswagen Group for use in all Audi diesel vehicles.
Labels inside vehicle fuel filler flaps clearly state that biodiesel should not be used, and more information can be found in the ‘Tips and maintenance’ section of your vehicle handbook.
At garage forecourts, the B30 biodiesel nozzle is located next to the normal diesel nozzle. However, the B30 is easily identifiable because the nozzle is orange, whereas the normal diesel nozzle is black.
